Meet Zahraa

At Studio Said, we’re pretty good at sharing the amazing work we do. But we thought it was high time we allowed you a peek at our inner workings to look at the team responsible for making the magic happen… Here we find out who everyone is and what they do at Said, but perhaps more importantly we’ve thrown in four quickfire questions to discover what really makes them tick! ‍Zahraa is our junior design placement student from Huddersfield Uni! She studies Interior design and will go back to complete her final year in September. ‍She currently lives with her family in West Yorkshire and loves the environment at Said’s office at Empire House in Slaithwaite. As the youngest member of the team, Zahraa values the encouragement that new projects give her in terms of building skills and confidence.

‍‍ How would you describe yourself in three words?

Kind, friendly, reliable.

‍What inspired you to become an interior designer?

Having a keen interest in architecture and design from a young age was where my interest in the industry stemmed from. TV programmes and documentaries, witnessing people transform homes and spaces, and admiring the buildings around us in travelling to different parts of the world. Interior design was my chosen path as I believed the interiors of a space complete the whole process and I appreciated the connection between client and designer to create an outcome that benefits all.

Can you share your favourite project you've worked on and what made it special?

My favourite project I have worked on would be the first children’s bedroom I contributed to. The brief given was to create a piece of joinery to incorporate into a child’s bedroom based on a space concept. Being one of the first very technical joinery designs I had worked on independently challenged me and allowed me to gain confidence in my CAD work. I found myself enjoying the process of designing children’s bedrooms and nurseries thoroughly and cannot wait to see them at the final stage.

How do you approach designing for different spaces and client preferences?

Before collecting inspiration and materials, I would always aim to gain a true understanding of the client’s personal style and intent when it comes to the use of a space. When designing a residential space, the emotion put into the space is a lot higher than what is seen within a commercial project. However, all projects require careful consideration and thought process to allow the purpose of the space to be met and to allow the users of the space to excel in an environment they feel reflects their attitude and values when it comes to work.
